Editor's note: Chuck Cox was elected to PGA Membership in October of 1997. He currently serves as a sales representative for Callaway Golf. Cox was awarded Callaway Golf's Southwest Regional Sales Rep of the Year in 2006 and '08, Chairmen's Club recipient, 2005-07. Describe your current responsibilities as a Sales Representative for Callaway?
Cox: I am responsible for the promotion and sales of the Callaway, Odyssey, Top-Flite and Ben Hogan brands in the Greater Houston market. This includes all sales, marketing, demo/fitting event coordination, tournament sales STPGA sponsorship, golf professional staffing and product training.
What do you like most about your job?
Cox: The autonomy associated with this position is what I like most. It allows me to make the decisions that need to be made and manage the business at my discretion. Callaway Golf has great confidence in my ability to get the job done.
What is the best part about working in the golf industry?
Cox: I get to talk about golf every day and be around a sport that is characterized by honesty, integrity and sportsmanship.
A lot of people in the industry have non-traditional work schedule, what is your normal work week?
Cox: Much like my fellow PGA Professionals on the "other side of the counter", my work schedule is pretty full all the time. To do this job correctly and efficiently, the responsibilities of this position require me to be involved hands-on in all aspects. However as a rule I always block Sundays off for family time.
What is a common misconception about your job?
Cox: The Houston market is responsible for a huge amount of revenue to U.S. Sales. Callaway Golf and its shareholders have put their total confidence in me to deliver results they expect. I get the question all the time -- "How do you get a job like yours?" I think it's because everyone gets the "grass is always greener" impression, or they think that I play golf all the time. For those people, just know this - IT'S A BIG JOB!!
